I'm looking for 2 novels to do with guided reading groups that have a holiday theme.

My students all read at a 3rd grade level and about 6 of them read at a 5th grade level.

I'd like something for a high group and low group.

Any ideas???

What about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? Your more capable readers could get a kick out of it. I certainly do!

Thanks anansi---that is actually one of the novels I was considering since we have enough books for that one. It is a 5.1 grade level equivalent.

I also thought about The Family Under the Bridge--it is also a 5.1 and we have enough of those to use, too.

I guess what I really need are ideas for students who read on grade level!

What about "Who is Stealing the 12 Days of Christmas?" It's at 3.5 AR level but reads like a 4.5. Might be something fun for them.

Reindeer Don't Wear Striped Pajamas--it's a little easier but fun.

I love the book Santa Paws. It is such a sweet little story. It would have to be for the group at the 5th grade level.

What about Geronimo Stilton's Christmas Catastrophe? It's about a 4.1 reading level. My kids love the Geronimo Stilton books.
