I have been teaching division this past week but am supposed to start teaching 2 digit division this week. Any suggestions on how to get my students to understand this better. Division is the hardest concept for thme to learn.
Thanks

Take the divisor and use it as the first factor in a multipli-
cation problem. The second factor is a box and the product is
the number you are trying to divide into.

SQUIGGLE!! I have the students draw a box around the top number box and product. Then estimate and answer and see if it works.

Put the answer in the quotient and continue on to the next step.

I have the students multiply instead of divide to take the fear away.
Hopefully this makes sense.

Our math books, Everyday Math, teach division in a really neat way! The book calls it Partial Quotients. The kids call it Hang Man!

I can email you handwritten example! It's too hard to type it how it's supposed to go! Amy

Hi Kathy!

I am just googling for tips on how to teach division with 2 digit dividends. I am home schooling my kids & today was our first day to tackle this subject & even after 10 examples, he was struggling with it. He knows all his multiplication facts, so that is not a problem. The problem is. he is confused on what to do next. Do you think your 'hang man' can help him? If so, I will really appreciate it if you could send me a copy. My email address is paultess89yahoo.com. Thanks a lot & Merry Christmas.
