I am going to do a frog theme this year and am leaning towards
Pond PAL of the week
Everything else I have is "star student" based but the board will say pond pal
I have a backpack I send home on friday with the student(randomly chosen) along with their star student poster, art supplies to decorate it, a stuffed animal(which will be a frog this year), a journal for the animal, and then a pencil(I found cute frog pencils!) and some other little treasure box type items which they get to keep.
The backpack and the other contents are due back on Monday and then each day is something new and all week they are the helper.
Monday they share the journal (what they did with the frog)
Tuesday they share their poster
Wednesday they can bring in their favorite picture book to share (or choose one of mine if they don't have one)
Thursday I encourage the parent to send in a letter sharing what is special about their child and encourage them to try to have lunch with their child this day....I may end up just writing a letter myself this year since many of my students parents last year did not participate.
Friday each student will fill in a lilypad with 1 kind word for the pond pal and it will go on a sheet of construction paper with the student in teh middle(their picture on a frog). I also encourage parents to send in a snack to share this day. I am thinking of doing a "teacher lunch" this day.
That's the plan anyway.
I did this with start student last year but I started late in the year. I plan to start the 3rd or 4th week of school for this year. (after labor day holidays)
