What are some good songs to play in 3rd grade?

I'm having a difficult time finding music to play in the background for my 3rd graders. Some of the music that I have are too babyish while some don't like the High School Musical, Mylie Cyrus music either. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tammy

Last year I would play songs off of my computer. I was able to use slacker.com to choose songs from. On that site there is a kids section where you know all the songs are safe. It is like a Radio Disney. Also, I was able to skip songs that I didn't like or they didn't like. Check it out.

I have two Disney Greatest Hit CDs as well as a few others like School House Rock. I always play music while my kiddos are working on independent work, and they enjoy it!

We liked the Curious George soundtrack. It's by Jack Johnson, so even I enjoyed it!

We listen to everything from Dan Zanes to U2 in my class. Be sure to check the lyrics, but I've found U2 and some Led Zeppelin are cool for school. We also listen to Jack Johnson, Jackson 5, and some oldies. I can't stand "kid" music and actually find it a little insulting to them - almost as if they can't handle the complexity of "grown up" music. Quite the contrary - they LOVE it!

(Oh, we also listen to some patriotic songs!)

I agree. My kids enjoy real music and it's almost a must for me.

Also, the masters---Mozart & Beethoven. Classical music calms my class for the day and especially during writing.

One of my students' favorites is Native American Flutes. I have a few different CD's. You can find them at Walmart or Target at the display that lets you sample the different music. It really sets a calm, relaxed, and inspirational environment.

I taught 5th grade last year and this will be my 1st time teaching 3rd. My 5th graders listened to High School Musical and they actually sang along with it while working---.
When I taught 4th grade, my students listened to Junie B Jones CDs while working--I know it's not music, but the CDs are hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I'm just playing something while they're writing or doing work, I play classical or jazz music - something without words.

When we're playing something for "fun" - they LOVE the Chipmunk CD!! They beg me to play it every day, but I usually just play it on Fridays as a special afternoon treat.

Classical music, music without words mostly in the morning to settle everyone down. In the afternoons, I play a cd of children singing Beatles songs.

I used my computer and played Kidz Bop radio (google will find it for you). They loved it because it was all the current songs (without the bad words!). They begged to listen to it constantly but I only used it as a reward or during Friday Fun time.
