Anyone heard of Zumba?

Let me start by saying I have put on about 30 pounds on my 5'1 frame in the last 2 years. I am 43 and I love relaxing. My mom pressured me into trying out this zumba class 2 days ago. It is a cardio program that is based on latin dancing. I had an absolute blast. I was smiling the whole time. It is a cross between jazzercise and shakira It totally kicked my b@#$, but I felt so proud of myself. I attended again yesterday, but I need a muscle recovery day today. I just wanted to encourage anyone who is like me and finds it hard to get started.

A good friend of mine (who is older but in MUCH better shape!) just did Zumba the other day and loved it.

I do need (desperately) to lose weight, but I am very self-conscious. It sounds like fun, if I could have my own private Zumba class, or one with just a few friends...

I'm glad you had fun with it!

I love Zumba. I did Zumba last year at a drop in class. The instructor moved away. I've contemplated joining a gym just so I can take a Zumba class. It's a really fun way to exercise. I was always sweating within the first 5 minutes.

The mother of one of my students this past year is an aerobics instructor. She also gives Zumba classes. She came in one day and had a class for my first graders. We had so much fun!

I go about twice a week and love it...Its a lil harder in the beginning, but it gets easier bc you get to know the routines.

I don't know if this is typical of all zumba classes but in the one I go to, the lights are off and a disco ball is on. You are so busy watching the instructor that you aren't paying one bit of attention to others so don't be self-conscious. It is more funny than anything because believe me, the class does not have any professional dancers at the fast pace it goes. My hips hurt since I don't shake that way.

Just remember for those who are gym shy, there are Zumba DVD's. I bought it way long ago before the huge craze hit the last few years.

I have taken classes and though teachers do go through Zumba certified training, each class can be very different. A lot of teachers are jumping on the bandwagon, so some classes can be a disappointment. You can tell the difference between someone who truly loves doing the class and someone out to make money. I guess just like teaching in the real world too.

I will start a class next week. I have heard many awesome things about it and was told even through I have NO rhythm that I will be able to do this class. I am so excited. I am also hoping it will kick up my metabolism.

Get the Zumba DVDs on the infomercial, the ones by Beto. There are several DVDs in the set. All of them are great. For extra fun, buy a belly dancing scarf and tie it to your hips as you Zumba. Loads of fun.

I just bought the Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System DVD Set (with two Zumba Sticks) at Amazon.com. It cost $64.95 (including shipping) and was the cheapest around that I found.

I just started taking Zumba classes. I've been to 2 @ the Y. The first one was given by an obvious dancer. When she had us lift our leg hers went high up to her head. Wow! The 2nd one was a little more slower and given by a different instructor.

I love Zumba! It's just like the "cumbias" I danced when I lived in Texas! Same steps! My husband gets frustrated because he still can't get the steps but he does try!! It's quite a work-out but I love the music, the level of intensity and energy!

Today we danced to some songs by Marc Anthony and Selena!
