Turtle Binder and Turtle Theme

Clip to ScrapBook #1

This will be my second year teaching 4th grade and I started a turtle theme in my room last year but I would love some more ideas for this coming year.

This is what I have so far:
- turtle tokens- given as class money/rewards
- class pet- turtle
-Turtle binder- teaching us responsibility to learn everyday

I would love any decorating ideas/suggestions. I am especially looking for anyone else who uses the Turtle binder that may be able to share some printables/graphics.

TIA!!

I also have a turtle theme in my classroom. I haven't done the turtle binder. Could you please give me some more information on that. I have some turtles for the class pets. I also have my students in groups, so I have given each group a turtle name (sea turtles, tortoises, snapping turtles, box turtles, and painted turtles). I also made my own job chart to go with the turtle theme. I made a pond and used a notepad of turtles to place in the pond. I made logs and rocks in the pond and put different jobs that need to be done on the logs and rocks. Then, I put a slits into the pond so the turtles can slip into the slits on top of the rocks and logs. I laminated the turtles and put the students names on them. I also do Turtley Cool Student of the Week. The students get to bring pictures in and share different things throughout the week and we made a poster for them at the end of the week. I also have a stuffed turtle that is in a backpack that the students get to take home one night and write about what they did with the turtle. I also have the class name the stuffed turtle too. I am now working on making the cafe board for reading that will go with my turtle theme.

Turtle ideas

Here are a few ideas I found on the net. Hope it helps!
Welcome to our Shell
reading pond
"Turtle-rific" coupons for good behavior
"Miss....'s Turtle Pond". cut a circle of blue paper, a bunch of brown "rocks" and had turtles "swimming" in the pond.
weekly newsletter is the "Turtle Letter" and homework is "Turtle Homework"
Slow and steady wins the race (for a handwriting board)
A shell-full of good writing
Classroom Newsletter: Call it the "Turtle Times"
*Reading corner: Print out a large picture of a snapping turtle and cut out some pretend books. Cut the corners off the books like they have been bitten "Sink your teeth into a good book!" or "Bite into a good book!" Put trees and leaves (paper ones) on the walls to make it feel like a turtle habitat.
Student of the Week: "Top Turtle" Turtle pencils for the student of the week.

lots of great ideas here! I may have to do this theme next year! Remember though... turtles are different from tortoises and neither have teeth! They have beaks! :-)
