I believe Disney or Nic had one. I really didn't care for it though. I was disappointed.

AIMS Multimeida put out a movie I just shoed my 5th graders. It was available through our BOCES system. It is ISBN # 0-8068-0100X 1-800-367-2467. It is a 30 minute movie. That is basically pictures with a retelling of the story.

Nickelodean first showed the movie in 2003. It has replayed since then. Call Nick and see if it's going to show again.
I have a tape of it on VHS.
I agree with the previous poster, it stinks compared to the book.

Do you think it would be possible to borrow your tape of Maniac Magee?
I teach in Anne Arundel Co. at J. Albert Adams Academy. You may call me there at: 410-222-1639 if you'd like.
Thank you!

I would gladly pay for a copy of the Nick movie if someone is capable of making a VHS copy for me. My 6th grade Language Arts class is reading the book and I would love to be able to show them the movie when we finish. I can be contacted at mzilmdistrict100.com

I saw about 5 minutes of the Maniac Magee movie on Disney channel a few years ago. Don't bother, it stinks, has nothing to do with the book!

Hello
I too am looking for a video or dvd of the Maniac Magee movie from Nickolodeon.

If anyone has a copy, I will gladly pay for a copy or to rent it from you for a week.

I teach in an inner city school with lots of struggling readers and I want to show the movie to all my kids who have worked so hard on this unit.

PLEASE EMAIL ME AT kmargaritis<img src="images/smilies/...>nps.k12.va.us if you can help me!

Thanks

Kalli

You can go to libraryvideo.com and do a quick search to find it. I looked it up and I have to warn you that the price is a bit steep. You can basically find any educational video on this site. It's where I found "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" video, and it's out of print.

If your school district is subscribed to unitedstreaming.com, they have the cartoon there. It is a short 30 minute cartoon. I am currently downloading it and have not watched it yet but it is there. Hope it works.

Don't bother

I already watched the movie with my class. The movies has no point to it and doesn't show anything important. It's just a waste of money and time, so I advise anyone interested to just not bother.

I have been looking for it for a very long time. Please let me know if I could get a copy from you or somebody, I would greatly appreciate it. falonhoag<img src="images/smilies/sy...g" />yahoo.com

Maniac Magee Book vs. Video
Old 01-06-2008, 06:24 PM

My sixth grade students read the book MANIAC MAGEE before watching the Nickelodeon version. It is a great movie to show how a book can be so much more rewarding than television. Out of all of my students polled; from reluctant readers to tome consumers the 100 percent consensus was the video was lacking, and they all enjoyed the novel by far. The lesson I have created for the reading and then viewing of the movie of MANIAC MAGEE is to tap into the four learning styles. For the random concrete or beachball the student can rewrite a new script combining elements from both versions and they may act it out. For the random abstract or puppydog; draw a scene from the book and draw the same scene from the movie showing the differences. For the concrete sequential/clipboard create two timelines showcases the differences between the two. Finally for the microscope or the abstract sequential student argue which version is better the movie or the book. I have been impressed by my students evidence of higher order thinking.
