I graduated last year

It was great to see what the kids brought with them to 4th. When we got to things and they acted clueless, it was easy for me to say "I KNOW you did this last year..." Kind of eye opening!

Remember, these are the kids you had at the end of the year last year - they are ready to go right where you left off!

I looped with my group, so I actually started from scratch with BTS things, but this year, since it will be a new group, I plan on going back to all the things I did in 3rd grade at the beginning of the year.

There is one new thing I added this year, and plan to do every year, as it was very insightful. I am attaching a reading survey I gave the kids the first day of school. I piloted it on my group last year, and this year it will be helpful in getting their book buckets set up for them.

I love your reading survey. I will be teaching 4th grade and I heard that the 3rd graders coming to us are VERY low in reading. I think that the survey will help me learn a little about my students.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm the opposite of you, instead of graduating up to 4th grade...I'm going down to 4th!! I've been in 5th forever!!

Here is a link to some posts on different recipes for the 1st day/week. I plan on making some with the kids!

We had a whole discussion on back to school stuff the other day. I posted some resources on there. I am sorry as I don't know how to find the link but I do know it was on the 4th grade board.

Welcome to 4tH!!!
