My classroom is finished! (pictures)

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I got up early this morning to go to work, and I got my room finished today. I worked from 10:30 to 7:45 yesterday, and I worked from 9:00-7:30 today. One of my friends came to help me out today. She did a lot of my piddly work like scraping labels off desks, putting labels on desks, and punching out bulletin board letters.

Here's what my room looked like yesterday when I started.

My Classroom BEFORE

And here's what my room looked like when I was finished today. I do still have a few things to do here and there, but most of it's done.

My 2010-2011 Classroom FINISHED

Great job on your classroom! I cannot wait to get started on mine in a couple of weeks.

QUESTION: I noticed your aquarium. How difficult is it to maintain? I was thinking of getting a beta fish since they are super easy.

Congratulations on finishing your room. It looks wonderful! I am so jealous - the electricity is out at my school due to construction. I hope to get back in there tomorrow. Or at least by Monday....surely it will be back on by then.

They are really easy. Once they are cycled, they maintain themselves unless they are overcrowded. All I do it change the filter about twice a year and top off the water when it gets low.

Your room looks great. I wish I had that large of a room and we have no individual supply closet. I can't get into my room for atleast another week. I had to change rooms and grades so I have alot to do in a short period of time. I will have about 1 week to get my room ready. Yikes!! I think I will have some long days and there will be no air.

It's either from Really Good Stuff or Calloway House. I can't remember which. I've had it for about four years. We just got more last year for the new SmartClassrooms. They still have them.

Your room looks fantastic!! I love it!

I have an extra desk in my room that I call my "Take 5" desk. When a kid needs to "Take 5" for behavior, that's where they go. Kids are also allowed to use this desk when they feel they need a break from their groups, so it's not necessarily a punishment. Maybe you could do something similar?

Room looks great Ima! One of the most inviting middle school rooms I have seen. I am getting a PROM board this year. Do you like yours? I have had the training already but am worried about the time it takes to create the flip charts. Do you make your own or use Prom Planet? Lastly, where did you get the poster set of "When you come in and Before you leave" where you fill in expectations? I have seen them somewhere but cannot remember where. TIA.

Good luck this year. We start back the 18th of August and kiddos on the 25th so we cannot even go in to set up yet.

Do you want to come and do mine now. It is very difficult as I have trouble visualizing and want things organized, but have problems figuring that out also!

Ironically this is the first year I can get into my classroom and it is the first year that I have no desire to.

You are a wonderful example that middle school rooms can be organized and inviting. I love the personal touches you have in unexpected places like the windowsills.

I was wondering what the sign to the right of SLANT says.

What is CHAMPS?

Have you used this seating arrangement before? What's the best part about it?

Your rooms looks terrific and all set for a great year!!

How did you get the curtains to stay on the tables and bookshelves to hide your materials? I'd like to do that on my two computer tables. I used Command hooks and shower curtains last year to hide the books on my bookshelf, but I like the curtai idea even better. Thanks for your great ideas, and I appreciate that you posted pics. It inspires me to get a move on in my own classroom!!!!

Ima, your classroom looks awesome but that's no surprise! I love the fabric you chose...it's colorful but not too busy. I also love the whole color scheme of the classroom. I think it's such an amazing middle school class and your kids must love it! They're very lucky to have such a creative teacher.

Are those the turquoise baskets from really good stuff? Do you like them? I'm thinking of splurging and buying them, they seem pretty rugged for the students to use daily. Thanks for sharing your room!

Wow! It looks fantastic...and kudos to you for staying late and getting it all done in two days. You are motivating me to get into mine and stay all day for two days and hammer it out.

I had to also laugh when you said your closet was tiny, because I would also kill (someone else said this) for a closet. We only have rolling cabinets to keep stuff in and they do not fit much.

I am getting a PROM board this year. Do you like yours? I have had the training already but am worried about the time it takes to create the flip charts. Do you make your own or use Prom Planet?
My board is a SmartBoard, so it uses Notebook files. I usually make my own. I had a lot of things in PowerPoint, and they convert easily. I recently went back to PowerPoint because of instability in the Notebook program. I lost a lot of stuff.

I love my board! I think this is my 5th year with one. I had the first in the building, and now our entire school has them.

I was wondering what the sign to the right of SLANT says.
I can't see it, and I have blocked it out from my memory, apparently. Is it the yellow one or the other blue one?

Have you used this seating arrangement before? What's the best part about it?
I've had something similar for a good 15 years. I think the kids hear each other better, and I also teach from both ends of the classroom. The short rows also allow me to be near everybody really easily. Nobody can "hide" in the back of a long row.

What font did you use on the front of the pocket chart that lists each period (the one with the dots).
I handwrote those.

Are those the turquoise baskets from really good stuff? Do you like them?
This will be the first year I've used them. Last spring when the principal sent out the "we have extra money, so order now" call, I made an order from Really Good Stuff. I've been to cheap to buy the baskets myself. They seem sturdy.

What a fanulous room! Middle school rooms can still be decorated! Thank you so much for sharing! We can't even get into our school yet. Major changes happening, so my entire classroom is in boxes in my garage. I'm so jealous!

in your classroom. Thanks for letting us know where you got the writing bulletin board posters. I am teaching 4th grade this year and it is a BIG year for writing here in FL! Now I can't wait to start setting up my classroom. We have 3wks until we have to start and 4wks b4 the kiddos start the school year.

The curtain that I put over the bookshelf beside my desk lasted a whole 15 minutes.

Yesterday I worked in my room at my desk for a few hours. I constantly kept reaching for stuff on that shelf, and then I'd have to move the curtain. I finally just took it down.

I put it across the front of my desk to hide the 500 computer cords for my SmartBoard hookup. I did have to "hem" it with my stapler to make it work, but it doesn't look bad!
