Clip to ScrapBook #1

Does anyone give a a little treat to families on Open House night?
I usually give a bag of popcorn with a tag that says "Thanks for popping in!" I put one on everyone's desk.

I give a bag of Lucky Charms with a poem attached that tells that each marshmallow means something, like a survival kit. My poem is on my school computer, but maybe someone else has it. It is cheap and easy!

I usually have a little treat for the student. It will go along with my theme for the year. Last year's theme was monkeys so I had a little bag of banana candies and a note on it that said, we're bananas about second grade! This year my theme is sports/team and I was going to do a little bag of chocolate foil covered balls and a note saying, "welcome to second grade! We're gonna have a ball"

What kind of bags do you use? If paper, does the oil soak into the bag? Also, I know that not all of my students will come to Open House. Do you put one on every desk and let them take it home the next day? I think this is such a cute idea.

along with a little note that says "an apple for the teacher is nothing new -- but remember, parents are teachers, too! Welcome to second grade!" or something close to that (it's at school). I'm pretty sure it was borrowed from someone on this site.

Lucky Charms Poem
Old 07-27-2010, 03:43 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #20

I found this on a website while I was browsing first day of school survival kits.

Hope this helps someone with the lucky charms idea.
I have this as a Word document as well but can't attach docs just yet.

This special treat is to remind you that Iím glad you are in my class! Before you eat your treat, have someone read this list to you. Search the bag for the marshmallow shapes inside! You should find:

*A Yellow Star: to remind you to always shine!
*A Pot of Gold: to remind you that youíre worth a million!
*A Colorful Rainbow: to remind you to promise to always do your best!
*A Blue Moon: to remind that once in awhile, we all make mistakes, and thatís okay!
*A Green Clover: to give you good luck as you begin 2nd Grade!
*A Purple Horseshoe: to remind you that U matter!
*A Red Balloon: to remind you to soar above the clouds and try new things!
*And most of all Ė A Pink Heart: to remind you that as your teacher, I care about you!

Welcome to 2nd Grade! I am so happy youíre here!

I would like to use the popcorn idea this year...my theme is 'movie stars', so the popcorn idea is perfect! Does anyone have a catchy slogan I can use? Thanks in advance!

I use the Lucky Charms too. I used to mail a small package to my kids with a welcome letter, but now that my class size is up, I give the Lucky Charms treat at the end of the first day-to take home--too expensive to mail.

I haven't given out real apples, but I did do an apple cutout with a magnet on the back with the poem and picture of the student on the 1st day of school.

As for a popcorn saying, I just use "thanks for popping in and checking out our pad"- I have a frog theme.

Everyone has great ideas!!!!!!!!

They sell bags of whale crackers -like goldfish. You could say "Let's have a whale of a year!"

Or use Goldfish or sweedish fish- "Thanks for swimming by our room!"

How about a real banana for a monkey theme. I know runts have banana shapes in the mix...
For the ocean theme the whale crackers (like goldfish) or gummy whales.
