I need help with homework folders!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

So I'm new to kindergarten this year. I taught 2nd grade for 2 years and 1st grade last year. I'm not quite sure what should go on homework folders. Last year I decorated the front of the folders with a frog (classroom theme) and their name. On the inside I put a copy of the alphabet and a hundred chart. What should go on the folders for kindergarteners? Anyone have any ideas or know where I can find a website that might have things I can print off and put on the folders?

Reading Street, numbers, color words, etc. If you want the file I can email it to you. It's too big to post here. Another teacher came up with this idea, and deserves the credit I just adapted it to work with the word order we teach in RS. Here is a pic of them. They are yet to be laminated.

Welcome Sweet_Smartie ~

We had been discussing BEE Folders earlier. . . stands for Bring Everything Everyday on this link: http://www.proteacher.net/discussion...hlight=folders

pianowoman41, thank you for your photos. These look like mini-offices? Resources for your kids? How are you using these, please? Thanks again, for sharing!

Homework Folders

I just used a yellow folder that said Homework on the outside. I used the monthly calendars that I printed from Kelly's Kindergarten to go inside. I really like the Bee Folders that I have been reading about. I may use that this coming year for a change.

I plan to leave the half folders in my kids daily envelopes so they can practice sight words , color words, and numbers to 31 at home. As words are introduced, I will put a small chart sticker over the list we are working on. As students master words in the list, I'll put a blue permanent marker dot by the word. This is a great way to communicate progress to parents. I have sent word lists in envelopes before, but loved the idea of a more permanent practice vehicle for students and parents to use. The sight word rings were hard to keep up with, and after many hours of prep, some of them never made it back to school. I will also indicate which numbers are rote counted successfully, and recognized out of order. For my tables, I have whole mini-office folders with the same information that will be kept in our table tubs. I didn't see email addresses on this site, so you'll have to send a private message with your email if you want my template.

These are all great ideas. I really like the BEE folder. Pianowoman I'd like it if you emailed me the file for the folders. I'd private message you, but I'm a newbie and I don't know how.

This is a reply to both piano_woman and sweet_smartie ~

I'm new too. I did add you as a friend piano_woman, but then I saw that it says you don't chat...

How do we contact one another privately, please?

Thanks! Definitely would love the template!

Thank you, Meridith ~

It must be a new member issue where we don't have access to a variety of priveledges as yet. That button/word does not exist on my screen. I must need to practice my patience. If it is a certain # of posts they are asking for, I must be getting close! HAHAha! I am LOVING this site this summer, oh my!

Thanks again...I'll keep looking for it to magically appear.

Sorry-I should have realized that you didn't have the private messaging button since it's not that hard to find. It looks like you already have plenty of posts, so I think the reason you can't PM yet is because you just recently joined. I think it takes at least a week (maybe more) before they let you PM. Hope it doesn't take that long since it's nice to be able to private message other members!

Meridith, maybe I just need to actually log off and log back on as opposed to be "on" constantly!

Aww! You mean I have to wait? If there are a certain amount of posts you have to have then I better step it up a notch or two! I really need that file. I'm already behind!

Sweet,
I use the monthly homework pages from SewWhat4u:

http://www.sewwhat4ucorp.com/teacherresources2006.htm

I also include a reading log page (from Kelly's Kindergarten, I think). There are always
books in my students' backpacks, with instructions to read at least 15 minutes every day.

My parents seem to like this homework.
