Does anyone have some ideas for a beginning of the year bulletin board using Dr. Suess' book Oh, the Places You'll Go!

I do a journey theme in my classroom but am adding this Dr. Seuss addition to it.

Our outside bulletin boards are already ready to start the year but I have a big bulletin board in my room that will be perfect for this that I don't need until end of October for our first Social Studies unit. I am going to do the ideas found on the website to create a large hot air balloon with a cute cutout of a child inside. The sign above will say "oh the places you will go in 4th grade!"

There will be a spot for each child's self-portrait, their goals for 4th grade, their name acronym, and other things we do the first few weeks.

I will leave the bulletin board up for back to school night and then take it down to make room for our first social studies unit. The things that come off the board will go into their scrapbooks.

My school participates in Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America so it will be fun to kick of the year with Dr. Seuss as well.

Another teacher is doing a Dr. Seuss theme in 4th grade and some great ideas were shared there.

Hope this helps.

In the book it shows the guy flying around holding onto a balloon. You could make thats little guy and color it to match the book and then actually "O the Places you can go" and have him flying toward an island that has a sign on it that says Mrs So-n-So's 4th grade class.. I hope that made sense...

On a bulletin board place a large U.S. Map (I have one made of fabric from Wal-Mart). Title it "Oh, the places you'll go". Students then tack a small post-it with the title/author of book in the state where that book took place.

Not to be an enabler but I just made a Vista print banner with a hot-air balloon and the words:
Oh the places you will go in fourth grade.
Do your personal best everyday and join in the journey!

I am going to hang it with all their back to school work: name acronym, self-portrait, goals, etc. It will be super cute for back to school night.
