I am sending out welcome postcards to my class. I have several things I may write on them...but could use any extras..I make myself crazy over these little things! Here is what I came up with...
1. Welcome to 5th grade. I look forward to having you in class this year!
2. Welcome to 5th grade. I hope you had a wonderful summer. I look forward to meeting you soon! It is going to be a great year.
I like the second one but wasn't sure if I should say "I hope you had a wonderful summer" or "I hope you've had a wonderful summer"...which is correct?
If you say "I hope you've had a wonderful summer" you're saying "I hope you have had a wonderful summer." The contraction "you've" stands for "you have" which I personally think sounds better. I'd definitely go with the secon one and use "you've."
I think this is a great idea! However, since our students aren't rostered for classes until the fall, I think I'll use the postcards to send to all my new students so they feel more at ease in my classroom. Thank you!
