Refocus: to redirect behavior
Old 08-15-2010, 04:19 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I use refocus in my classroom. I redirect the behavior without losing my whole class. I have the forms attached that I have used in my Kindergarten classroom. These forms can also be used in 1st grade.

After reviewing procedures and routines with the class I start using Refocus several weeks into the school year. I have a desk outside my table area away from contact with us.. They are still in the room and they can hear me. At this desk I have a folder with these forms, pencil, and a green sign. Say, We are sitting at our desk and little Johnny is playing with his neighbor when he should be working quietly. I would say, "Johnny, you need to work on your paper", please turn around. You walk away, and Johnny still continues to play. You say, "Johnny, turn around and work quietly". You try to redirect the behavior. If it does not change. You simply say "Refocus". They will know to stand up and move quielty to the desk.
They will out the paper, stop and think about what they did, and when ready to join the room they hold up the green sign. All I need to do to casually look over to where they are, and when I notice the green sign, I nod my head. When I have a minute free, I will pull him/her to the sign and discuss the form and the behavior, and talk of what is expected. I ended the half of the year, not sending any one to Refocus.

I just wanted to share, some members where interested in the forms.

I use this in my Kindergarten classroom and it has worked miracles. It helps me to be consistent and the students know what's expected of them. It holds them accountable for their actions. I am at a Title 1 school. I love the addition of a green sign!

I am beginning a Time to Teach behavior plan in my first grade.
Looking for some REFOCUS forms to use with my class. I tried to use pekabo's ...but do not have print installed. Any suggestions?

I would love to see this form. I went to a time to teach conference earlier in the year and loved the premise behind it. I teach 1st grade and have been looking for a good primary form to use. Would you be able to email it to me as I can't open the link you posted. My email is antyem6@hotmail.com. Thank you!
