I'm looking for some Christmas writing ideas for my 3/4 class. We've already written our letters to Santa. Thanks!

Santa's new suit...

Just yesterday, in our 4th grade classrooms, we designed a new suit for Santa! The kids drew Santa wearing his new suit, and then they wrote a descriptive paragraph about it. We had many creative ideas! We had a 007 Santa, a Rock and Roll Santa, a Veterinarian Santa, a teacher Santa.....all dressed in an outfit to go along with the new job. It was really fun. We then mounted the picture and our writing on construction paper and hung in the hall.

My class just wrote about what kind of gift they would like to give, who they would give themselves to and why. They all started with - If I were a gift......

Holiday Memories

We read Christmas Tree Memories by Aliki and The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston. I also read the Hanukkah book One Candle by Eve Bunting. The children then write about a special holiday memory/tradition their family has.<!--CHRISTMAS1-->

I do two persuassive writing activities. The first it to imaging that you are one of Santa's reindeer. You are to write a persuassive letter to Santa askinf for the day after Christmas off. The second one is to write a persuassive letter to Santa asking him to bring a special gift for you mom. Both must present the request and at least three good reasons why Santa should oblige. I will see if I can locate the handouts I made.

In my third grade class, the students are writing their own versions of "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

We write persuasive paragraphs convincing children to leave Santa a different snack than the boring old cookies he gets from everyone. I have them write their paragraph, illustrate the snack on a paper plate, and glue them to a placemat. They're a great bulletin board.

Since you've already written a Christmas piece, why not a different focus? How about a New Year's resolution piece?
