Rate my teacher

I'm just curious who else out there has read their teacher rating from the above website. I got started the other day and went looking up other teachers that I knew. Sometimes the students are pretty bang-on with their observations but other times I see negative ratings and I know it's probably from a resentful or revengeful student who is hiding behind anonymity.

I have checked it out. I think most posters in my area are high schoolers. Very few teachers are rated at my school. My husband's school has more ratings. It seems mostly irate students have posted at his school.

I have checked it before, but my school's not on there. I am kind of interested to know what the students would write about me, but at the same time, it's probably better not to know. As you said, some of the negative comments/ratings come from upset students.

The school where I student taught is on there. The teachers who got good ratings and comments were the "cool" ones. You know, the kind who waste an entire period on things not related to class.

My school is there, but no one has been rated. I am going to think this is a good thing and probably most kids here don't know about this site.

In The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, he references this site. I hope it never grows to the point where it has an impact on a teacher's reputation. I see there is a part where parents can rate but I haven't seen any parents use this. If that happened, I suppose there could be a sister site called "rate the parents". j/k!

and my school is on it, but I couldn't find any ratings. Do you have to have an account and sign in or can you find ratings without doing that?

The URL I was referring to is www.ratemyteachers.com. You only need to know the location/name of the school. (I'm Canadian, so it's actually www.ratemyteachers.ca)

I found my school and

some of my colleagues are on it. However some of the teachers are not there anymore and two of the teachers I have never heard of and I've been there for 11 years. Thankfully I'm not on there. I don't like the idea that anybody can just rate another person anonomously. our old principal got a pretty low rating and I know she was an excellent principal. Boo to this site.

ratemystudents ? Just kidding, but Ratemyteachers has NO accountability--students are allowed to post whatever they want without any documentation of validity. As sarah78's message says some of the ratings are probably from a resentful or revengeful student who is hiding behind anonymity. I know this was true for my daughter, a secondary teacher who began her teaching career as a mid-first-semester replacement for a teacher who just walked out. This was 3 years ago and the poor rating she received from a student who wanted Mr. Walkout back is still there. It doesn't matter much--my daughter has moved to a new city since then, (and a new teaching position) but it was so hurtful to her at the time. I sure did want to thump that student!

That is so funny. I just went and checked it out. I have been at 4 schools in 10 years and the only one I was rated in was - gee, go figure, the middle school! HA HA!! You know those 6th graders can't resist letting you know how they feel about you! I had a straight face - when I read comments - they were pretty dead on - it was a nice bell curve - the way I think it should be - you can't please them all, right! One gave me a bad rating just 'cause I gave them a D!! :>)

I got a kick out of that - thanks for sharing!
