Reading ITBS/COGAT Scores

Hi guys,

I don't have any special training in teaching gifted/talented and the ITBS and COGAT are used in my area for testing. I never really learned how to "read" the scores and it seems like every year I have to bug our gifted teacher to show me what to look at. I was wondering if maybe any of you had some sort of cheat sheet/guide that says what to look at and what things mean for these tests so that I can be less of a pest.

TIA

you want to look at percentiles, grade equivalencies (GE) and stanines. When using the test results to identify gifted students, most places would look at percentiles in the 90%ile (or higher) range, GEs that are at least 1 to 2 years above their current placement, and stanines that are 8 or 9. Those are the students that I would recommend teachers observe for signs of giftedness, and in some places, those scores alone would qualify them for gifted programs.

hope that helps..
