My grade level is planning a Language Arts lesson for the Polar Express between the book and movie, and we are looking for any ideas that anyone has done for this in the past. Thanks so much!

Polar Express activities

We do a unit the week we get out for Winter break--finishing with a Polar Express pajama party where we watch the movie, eat donuts and drink cocoa. A good language arts activity is to use the book for figurative language. We have mini lessons on different kinds of fig. lang. such as metaphors, similes, personification, etc. Then we do a "scavenger hunt" through the book to find examples of them. I then have the students write a few sentences about their own family traditions using figurative language.
