cost of hair color/highlights/cut

Ok, I know this topic has been covered before but I am curious how much you pay for a cut/color/highlight/blowdry/style. I've been coloring my own hair for over 10 years and the stuff in the store just does not color the gray....so I'm now going to the salon for all of it. I just got back and LOVE the color/highlights and the cut. I paid $93 plus a $15 tip. Just what is the typical percentage range for tipping for this type of service?

The last time I had that done, I got a shampoo, cut, base color, two highlights, and blowdry/style for $68. That was about five years ago.

and getting 3 colors, cut and style. I think it'll be about $75 if I remember correctly. + tip of course. I would also like to know what the tip rate is for a stylist.

I get a cut, color (sometimes base plus highlights, sometimes base plus glaze), blow dry, and style every 12 weeks or so. My stylist charges $90--and is worth every penny.

Typical percentage for tipping would be 20% in the Chicagoland area.

Enjoy your new style!!

Coloring the gray, highlighting, and cut runs about $120.00 plus a tip. Some places even higher. It's too much money but I do it! Sometimes I stretch the time out between appointments, but I don't like to because of the regrowth.

I pay $75 for wash, highlights, cut and blowout. That is pretty cheap compared to what some of my friends pay. I always tip at least 20%.

Some of you need to count your blessings! Mine is $100 to to do full color and highlights, then 6 weeks later $70 for just roots. I just don't want to go back to doing it myself, so I'll have to give up something else to make up for the cost.

New Stylist

I was paying almost 150 for highlights, lowlights, and cut. I went to another high priced salon and paid the same outrageous amount. I was never thrilled. I switched to a new stylist at a small hometown salon where I now pay $40 for the whole thing and she's done in an hour! I walk out happy and not feeling sick to my stomach for paying an outrageous amount and not even being thrilled with my hair. When the stylists make more per hour than certified teachers something is WRONG!

Think about it!

No highlights but color, cut, and blowdry/style is $40 here. I am thinking I have been undertipping at $5.

I get root touchup for my color and it runs $65. Haircut is $50. I go to a pretty expensive salon, but love how my hairdresser does my hair.

The salon where I have gone for the past couple of years charged $115 for a cut, blow dry and partial highlights (for slightly above shoulder length hair). I usually tipped my stylist $20.

My appointment (about every 3 months) kept getting rescheduled because my stylist had hurt her back and was on sick leave. This forced me to find someone new. I found a woman (through my mom) who formerly owned a salon and now runs her business out of her house. The same cut, style and highlights....$40 plus a $15 tip. She was fabulous and I will certainly go back to her. What a great find she was.

Where do you all live? Your prices are incredible! In NC, it runs 40 for haircut, 60 for partial highlights and 10 dollars for every extra color. I have started to go to a school and it now costs 6 for a cut, 30 for partial highlights, 10 for an extra color.

It takes longer, and they do take appointments, but the price is much better!

$85 for highlights, wash, cut, and dry. I have been going to the same stylist for at least 15 years, so I'm generous with my tipping. I think 20% is acceptable if your happy with the outcome.

I pay about 80 dollars for color, cut and style. I tip over 20% every time. So, usually it costs about 100 dollars.

from the salon. Cut and color $65. I think that is pretty reasonable. My teaching partner has similar length hair and she just paid $90.

this post, but do you ever have trouble with the color fading? I had that problem last time and I'm hoping this time is better. What can I do to keep the color longer. Seems like after 2 weeks it had faded quite a bit.
