Camping Theme

I want to create a PSSA Standardized Testing practice titled "Study Camp" because our principal doesn't want us to use the phrase PSSA Prep. If I title it Study Camp, I was thinking of doing a camping theme, but I need help! I thought of some things and activities I could do, but any suggestions would be great! Anything at all to do with camping, any BB titles, activities nicknames, etc. Thanks!

A fun thing that my team did last year was have a reading tent. What you put in it would depend on your grade level. You could put in sleeping bags and even a fake fire if you have space. Students could go into the tent to read and then complete related activities. The kids loved it!

I did camp learned a lot at the end of one year, and my team and I worked together. It was great, because each of us set up one thing in our rooms and then the kids rotated each day. The teachers dressed up like we were camping and I stood out in the middle of the hall and blew a whistle when it was time to change. I made paper "wooden" signs by each door giving our rooms names and we decorated the whole hall with trees and green crepe paper on the ceiling. Since I don't teach the upper grades, I don't have ideas for actual activities, BUT I think that even the change in scenery could be refreshing for kids- even if at each room they were doing something paper pencil.

Rise and shine...

I used the "Camp Learned Alot" theme to wrap up the year when I taught 3rd grade. We turned out the lights and "star gazed" by shining flash lights on paper stars taped to the classroom ceiling. The stars were labeled with problems/content to review. We sang songs/chants that reviewed math facts while seated around a pretend campfire ring.
We took a learning hike and looked for hidden clues that needed to be solved. I found many ideas by doing a google search...some were for Kindergarten, but, adaptable to 1st graders.

I have tons...

of camping ideas. My classroom has been a camping theme for the past three years. Here's some of my BB titles: Camping Out with a Good Book, S'MORE GOOD WORK!! "Something to Chew On" (with a moose chewing on a piece of grass)...Hiking the Third Grade Trail (I use hiking boots in the hallway)....Happy Campers (use to display the kids pictures). Also I found some cute camping chairs and lanterns at Wal-mart. I make "Moose Munch" with cheetos, cheerios, and choc chips. The kids love it!! I have a bingo game that we call CAMPO - they also have a mad lib you could use that is all camping...and there are tons of cute books that are about camping. Mr. Magee's Camping Spree is my favortite and you can use Spree candy with it. What else???? Carson Dellosa has a couple of cute BB sets with woodsy animals, pine trees, etc. I have a whole wall full of pine trees and animals in my reading corner. Check out scrapbook stores and Hobby Lobby - they have cute camping theme stickers and fun paper in their scrapbook section. What else??? I do a lot of moose in my room with lots of brown postal paper and ivy for BB board...That's all that is coming to mind right now. I haven't been to school all week because of snow and ice so I'm not remembering everything. I'll write more as I think about it...hope this helps.

Could you give more details about your camping theme? I plan to do more of an adventure/outdoor theme next year, but I bet many of your ideas for my room. Thanks so much!
