For a fun read: Snow Day! by Lester Laminack - kids love the 'surprise' ending!

The Biggest, Best Snowman by Margery Cuyler for procedural writing -- the little girl, who is always told she is too little to do anything by Mom and her sisters, goes to the woods to play with her animal friends. They want to know how to build a snowman and she teaches them. Then shows her family the snowman and they finally believe that she is not too little to help out at home.
The class really enjoyed this book.
So many themes in this book: bullying, family, helping, winter, procedure writing etc.

A Very Special Snowflake by Dan Hoffman. Two children lose their new puppy, Snowflake during a snowfall in their village. They go through the village asking various townspeople if they have seen Snowflake. The illustrations are great and the story is cute. Good for sequence of events and possibilities for snowy compositions.

I also read these books in my room for the month of January. These are a few that I have: Henry and Mudge in the Sparkle Days by Cynthia Rylant, Snow Friends by Christina Butler and Tina Machaughton, The First Day of Winter by Denise Fleming, The Little Penguin by A.J. Wood, The Black Snowman by Phil Mendez, Silly Snowy Day by Michael Coleman, The Biggest Snowman Ever by Steven Kroll. Hope these help! :0)
