Does anyone have a clever how-to paragraph idea? I've already done the how to blow a bubble idea, which is so cute, so I'm looking for something that is just as cute. Thank you for all of your help!

We did kool aid and how to brush your teeth in my class. I try to use ideas that they will all know how to do. You can also do how to pop popcorn. I like to make the item after we do the paragraph so they can see if it works. Have fun!

how to writing

i just did this last week with my third graders and boy did they love it! it was a three day unit and could have been longer if you wanted more practice and revision/proofreading time before the final paragraph was due. on the first day, we did how to dress an alien. i brough in shoes, pants, shirts, and socks, and as a whole class we wrote the steps as one student aka our alien got dressed. the next day they did how to dress an alien in small groups and read their paragraphs aloud and acted it out to check the accuracy of the steps. finally we did how to eat an oreo. i gave them one oreo first and as they ate they wrote down the steps. i then gave them a second oreo to try out their steps to make sure they were all there and in the right order. after that students wrote their final paragraph on paper shaped like oreo. it turned out really good....especially with the mix of whole class to small group to individual. hope that helps!

I showed the how to blow a bubble video and then we brainstormed ideas as a class. The students wrote on a topic of their own choice- nice results, from how to braid, make a friend, make fruit salad, and many more. I prefer when they do not all have the same topic.
