Cold Reads

Clip to ScrapBook #1

With State testing quickly approaching, I am wanting to do weekly cold read practices with my class to get them ready besides on just working them in small groups. Where is a good resource to find some that aren't the ones leveled and with the text.

Like a paragraph to read (like a state testing would have) and the comprehension questions to go with.

Cold Read Tests

Scholastic has a lot of books and resources that have great cold read tests. However, I like it when they ARE leveled so I can make sure I am choosing on grade level text (which is what our State Testing is). The books "24 Nonfiction Passages for Test Practice" and "8 Practice Tests for Reading and Math" have been very helpful. We give 1 cold read test every week in order to get a better look at the students reading and comprehension ability.

check into some state dept. of ed. websites to find their released test item samplers to get a few stories w/ the attached questions there. I've gotten good ones from the state of Oregon, PA, and Washington.

If you click here and look at the Arkansas released items there are lots of reading passages with questions.
