Summary using a hand

Clip to ScrapBook #1

My cooperating teacher taught summarizing using a picture of a hand with a word or phrase for each finger that led students through writing the summary. I don't have a copy and can't get a hold of her. Has anyone else used this who might remember what the words on the fingers were?

When summarizing we used:

Thumb - Somebody... (name the main character/characters)
Index finger - wanted... (what did they want)
Middle finger - but... (what got in their way)
Ring finger - so... (how did they work towards solving their problem)
Pinky finger - then... (how was the problem resolved).

A cool idea to write all these starters on a garden mitt ($1 at a DollarTree) using a sharpie, and students use it when they work in pairs. I also put a heart in the center as a theme of the story. They love it!
