Is anyone interested in reading this book with me? The name of the book is "Igniting a Passion for Reading: Successful Strategies for Building Lifetime Readers" and its by Steven Layne. .I just received it yesterday but can't wait to read it. I hate to get excited about the ideas I read in a book and have no one to share it with. I hope someone will join me.

I'm not really sure how to do a book club but I'll wait to see if anyone else is interested in this book.

Hope to see you soon!

I read his book on the publishers website when it was available last summer, so it's been awhile since I read it. It was a good follow up to The Book Whisperer. He had great ideas for getting kids excited about books, which I really liked. Also talked about book talks, and trading books so other kids could see what each other was reading. One chapter is a bit "out there" where he talks about changing a space at your school into a reading area, full of couches and books--my school would never go for that, not to mention fire code issues.
Overall I did like it though!
I will be checking back for people's thoughts, which will hopefully trigger my memory!

I've thumbed through the book but I'm going to start the book now that I'm on Spring Break. I'll try to remember to post my thoughts/ideas as I read.

It's definitely not too late because I got sidetracked by Netflix and packing during Spring Break.

How would you like to proceed? Chapter by chapter? I've never done this before although I've always wanted to.

I haven't been able to read this book because I've moved and I'm still unpacking. I realize I will not have time to read this book until July. If you're willing to wait for discussion until then, that would be great. On the other hand, if you're eager to start right away...I could probably only commit to a chapter every other week or so.

Let me know...I really wanna do this...I'm just overwhelmed!

I too read it last summer when it was on the publishers website. Once you start reading it goes very quickly. Tons of great ideas!

Here is my plan for this book

I am reading this book little by little. After I finish it, I will go back and create/prepare the necessary signs or whatever to go with his suggestions (for example the "Hot Read" sign). If its anything worth sharing, I will post for others to download.

Since some people have it and others have read it, and others have yer to read or complete it, perhaps we should just read it on our own schedules and post thoughts/creations in this thread. Some people are on summer vacation already but the last day of school for me is June 28th.

Of course, if we'd like to read chapter by chapter together, I'd love to read it with someone after June 28th.

Sounds great! I bought it last summer but never got to read it. I would love to be part of your reading group. I will be ready to start on June 28. I have never done this so let me know what I need to do.

So it looks like there's at least three of us. Let's try to post back in this thread on June 28th or 29th so we can talk about reading the book.

See you!

I am interested! Steven Layne came to our district last fall to speak and we each got a copy. I never have time to read during the school year so I am going to read it this summer. I will check back to see what you guys are doing!
