Fourth Grade Help

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I recently found out that I am going to be teaching fourth grade next year at a very small school. I am very excited to do it... but I am clueless on where to begin. My new team is great, but they are young and are unable to offer alot of suggestions to me because of their lack of experience as well.
where do I begin?
what do I NEED to have?
I would love any assistance!!

Things to Have

Make sure you start a classroom library. Garage sales, ebay, etc are great places to find lots of books. Have you seen your classroom? Does the school provide you with classroom supplies? Start thinking about how you will decorate. Will you have a theme? Target and The Dollar Tree have lots of great classroom decor items. Figure out your classroom managment plan. Work on a letter to send home that introduces yourself and shares about the plans you have for the upcoming year.

Enjoy 4th grade!

Some ideas

1. Strong discipline system.
2. Baseline assessment for the beginning of the school.
3. A plan for "worse case scenarios", like: no-homework, missing info on emergency cards, drills.
4. A good library with chapter books, comics, encyclopedias, newspapers.
5. Math manipulatives.
6. Lots of writing opportunities IN ALL subjects.
