from the 70's and 80's.

I think you might want to pick a more contemporary cartoon that you can still find materials for and that your kids might be familiar with.

Dr. Suess - Cat in the Hat (loads of stuff at many teachers' stores)
also it is linked to literature.

SpongeBob - you can link it to non-fiction study of sea animals.

Dora the Explorer- a learning adventure

I'm not to up on the latest cartoons, but the Smurfs are dated in my opinion.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

When I think of Smurfs, I think of the original cartoon too! And those cute mushroom houses in the forest. Isn't it funny how they are coming back? I took my daughter to the movies and was surprised to see that Smurfs 3D will be out at the end of July!

Your helpers could be the "Handy Smurfs"...

Good luck!!! Would love to see photos when it all comes together!!!

I love the Smurfs! You can get smurf images if you goole them. I did this for my daughters birthday in may. You can make mushroom houses of different colors and assign the children to groups by color. Also, you can create jobs based on smurf names... Handy smurf, Leader smurf, Planter smurf, etc. You can find the smurfs actual names online. Also, you can create a behavior system around Gargamell. You can make a chart or board with a path that leads to his house. Students move tags in that direction if they are in trouble. You can also award smurfberries for good behavior and collect them in a basket. Set a number to reach and reward the class. Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

Pardon the pun-I couldn't resist!!! I love your idea and was pleasantly surprised to find the smurfs were on tv again. You can decorate with lots of blue-blue backgrounds, blue baskets, blue borders, etc. I keep thinking about a way to suspend a large golf umbrella and cover it to look like their cute mushroom houses. Maybe someone who is better with this than me can figure this out for you.
