Coffee Shop Theme! Need ideas please!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I've decided to decorate in a coffee shop theme. I am the 3rd grade Reading, Spelling, and SS teacher. I've purchased polka dot and paisley borders in browns, blues, and greens. I'm in need of slogans to use for my discipline board, reading center,... Any ideas would be appreciated.

Here is a super cute Writer's Coffeehouse idea from the amazing Amanda Nickerson. This is the link to the activity on her blog. You might find other useful activities there too! I purchased her unit from TPT and can't wait to try it!

http://oneextradegree.blogspot.com/s...%20Coffeehouse

I am doing Daily 5 in my classroom. In each student's book box, I am going to give them an unused Starbucks cup. On the outside I'm going to write, "Read a Latte" and stored inside will be their read to someone checkmark, regular bookmark, pencil, sticky notes, etc. Basically supplies for read to someone and read to self.

Have fun with your new theme!

I am also using the Coffee Cafe theme in my room this year. I am teaching fifth grade and I have never used a theme before. I am super excited. One of the boards I am going to have up in my room is a book recommendation board. Anyone have a creative name I could use to title it?

Not sure about the title just yet, but the first thing that popped in my mind were the bulletin boards a lot of our coffee shops have. They usually have push pins and people randomly hang when a band is performing, apt for rent, etc.

You might tie that into book recommendations by allowing the students to randomly put their own creations up so it's unique like a coffehouse. Some could post recommendations on a sheet of paper, sticky note, and computer print out, or index card so you have a variety. As a organize freak this would drive me crazy, but I would do it because the kids would love the freedom.

Maybe you don't have to include the word "book" in the title. You could simply explain that the Cafe' News (or message) board, The Bean Bulletin, or The Peer Post should be used for book recommendations.

If you want to include book in the caption, what about calling it the Book Nook or Book Bulletin?

My creative juices are a bit off today as it is 100 degrees out and I have been in it for couple hours.

My teenage daughter has been helping me with my room, and she is so creative! We have a big sign that says "Welcome to Starbooks!" I bought a chalkboard at a garage sale, and we posted the classroom rules in chalk and decorated like a menu board you would see in a coffee shop. I promise to get pictures posted when we finish up!

Love the ideas! And borrowing/stealing them. My daughter is helping me shop for some cute coffee decorations from the dollar store. Thanks for the additional ideas.
