Hey everyone! I'm starting a solar system unit tomorrow and in all my searching I had stumbled upon a food example of the planets: the sun is an orange, pluto is a pea, etc. Now I can't remember where I saw it or what all of the food items were for the planets. I want my kiddos to make a model out of clay but know how big to make their planets by having the food examples. Anyone know them? THanks!!!!!

This web page has an imbedded calculator that will give you dimensions for parts of the solar system. You enter the size that you want the sun to be and the calculator figures the scale diameters of the planets and their orbits as well as other scale numbers.

I hope this helps you and that you have fun with it.

Could this be it?

http://www.laep.org/target/SMART/sunrise/4-7les3.html

or this?

http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:...odel+pea&hl=en

I found these by typing the following words into google.com

"solar system" model pea

There are more websites but I thought these two may be closest to what you want.
