I wil be spending the next 3 weeks on animals and their habitats. I need some ideas to help stretch out this unit. Please help...our science text stinks....
Also, in April we are to teach Poetry. What kinds of poetry lessons and writing can 1st graders handle. I always did a really great unit with my 3rd graders, but need to know how to pare it down for 1st grade.
We are also working on animals in science. My first graders are doing a research report on the animal of their choosing. We went to the library and are using the internet for our research. (They love this! It make them feel so grown up.) I am also going to have them "build" a new animal. For example take the head of a lion and the body of a giraffe and put them together. They will name their animal and write a descriptive paragraph about it including habitat, what they like to eat, etc.
