Reader's and Writer's Workshop lesson plans???
Old 08-29-2011, 01:28 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Where can I find daily lesson plans for reader's and writer's workshop?

I am trying the workshop approach this year with my 4th grade, but I DO NOT know what to do after the "20 days" of class!!!

Does someone have lesson plans or know where I can look to get an idea of what to teach every day??

Thanks

Fourth Grade Readers Workshop

Here are a few resources:

4th Grade Readers - you can buy on Amazon. I've just ordered it, a colleague said it was extremely helpful to her last year. Also, Guiding Reading and Writers Grades 3-6 by Fountas and Pinnell is very comprehensive. Angela Bunyi on Scholastic has some great ideas and tips.

Here are some websites that provide yearly curriculum plan plus daily lessons and teaching points-Denver school district and one in Mass.

http://www.wrsd.net/literacy/

Last, Teacher's College just released grade level units of study by Lucy Calkins aligned with the common core standards. You can directly buy and download for 10$ !

Hope this helps!

This question has been asked before. I was able to click on a link and look at the lessons for the months of Sept. and Oct. Sorry I don't remember where to find that post. At least six or seven other months were also given.

Thanks for the Writer's Workshop link. This is my second year with ww and I am still struggling on an order of mini-lessons that make sense. I've attached my year-long plan for RW. I did not make up all of the lessons but I put them in an order that works for me.

mini workshop ideas! I will be teaching language arts for the next school year. Your mini lesson ideas will help give me background on a subject area that I am not comfortable teaching.

Thanks again!

Grades?

gerikear, what grade level do you teach? I teach kindergarten and my grade level is looking into and implementing WW and RW this year. We feel that Calkins' curricular plan books are a little vague for the K level. Are there any other K teachers working with this?
