I love teaching Ohio history. What kinds of things are you looking for?

I worked with the Ohio Historical Society last year contributing to their new Ohio as America online text. I believe it is free to districts for the first year with a commitment to sign on for another year. You may want to check that out

We also use Ohio Studies Weekly as our "text". I think it's well written for our 4th graders. I supplement with writing and projects too.

I just discovered the Ohio as America web site... I don't think my school will pay for it... my district is more willing to buy things reading and math related. I also saw the social studies weekly but again I am not gonna get it. I am looking for activities/projects for each of the subject areas( GLI). For example we r learning about Ohio's geography and and resources. I usually place the kids in groups and they r responsible for adding resources information to large map. I don't know if thesis the most effective. I wanted someone I can brainstorm with when I don't know what to do.

First Time teaching 4th grade Social Studies

Hi! I am very interested in ideas as well. I'm teaching 4th grade for the first time and have just recently moved to Ohio, so I have a limited knowledge of social studies for 4th grade and of Ohio in general. Are you planning to communicate through proteacher or elsewhere?

I could really use any ideas or help you might have.

Thanks!

Not very exciting... they didn't farm, had no real homes.. so what do to help them remember how important these early people were? Diorama?

We end up comparing how each Indian group throughout history become more "sophisticated" with skills and tools and so building student background with these early tribes helps them understand.

Sometimes we do timelines and then more hands on projects about the Adena and Hopewells . Just food for thought
