Anyone from Michigan willing to give up some second grade field trip ideas? I'm looking for around the metro Detroit area.

We go there once the weather gets warmer. It might already be booked though, it books up very, very quickly!

Upland hills farm can be used for both science and social studies. http://www.uplandhillsfarm.com/. The Belle Isle Botanical Gardens are great too! I went to the zoo last year but did not really enjoy that experience (it seemed like every school was there, but I hear that it is nice to take a trip to in January. I have heard great things about the Science Center, but have never been there as bussing is a major problem in my district as we have to be back super early. I have also heard great things about Cranbrook. Hope that helps! Good to know that there is another teacher in the area on here

Metro Detroit Field Trip ideas

Health Exploration Station in Canton at the St. Johns Health Center (cost $4.00) per child; you can check it out online.

Great Harvest Bread Company will do field trips (one hour no cost) and kids learn about the making of bread. I tie it into our community and natural, human, and capital resources.
After we go there, we go to the police station in our city. (goods and services)

We go to the Detroit Zoo, too. It's a wonderful field trip!

We go to Greenfield Village in Dearborn. If the weather is bad, you can switch to The Henry Ford that morning. Both are great. In the past, we have also gone to
- Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum
- Material Recovery Facility in Ann Arbor
- Detroit Zoo
- Toledo Zoo

Other ideas I have done with my own children:
- Imagination Station in Toledo
- Lake Erie Metropark programs
- Cranbrook Institute of Science
- Detroit Science Center
- DIA
