Can You Have Tonsillitis and Not Have a Fever?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Yesterday I woke up and it hurt to swallow. I noticed as the day went on I developed two white patches on my right tonsil and one on my left. I've only had strep throat a couple times in my life and only one time have I had white patches. I have a little congestion (post nasal mostly) but have no fever. Just a little tired. Luckily as of now I don't feel sick, just a bothersome sore throat. Can you have tonsillitis but have no fever?

I think my body is just hanging on until winter break... one more week... one more week... one more week

As I sit here recovering from strep throat, I am begging you to high-tail it to the dr. for some antibiotics! I NEVER get a fever with strep, but it makes me awfully sick, even when I catch it early. It isn't fun being sick this time of year especially, so get yourself checked out. It is a quick throat swab, and you'll know for sure. Best of luck to you!! Feel better.

Doctor Visit Needed

Don't take meds unless you have a swab test come back positive for strep. You're describing the same symptoms my daughter had, and she was just diagnosed with mono. Her doctor prescribed antibiotics (twice!) and she had a horrible reaction. Turns out if you have mono and take antibiotics, you'll get a terrible rash and your skin will swell. (Not supposed to take meds with mono.) So now she's out the $$ for three doctor visits and two rounds of different antibiotics that are unusable.

Google mono and see if your white patches look like the pictures there.

Sure can get strep or tonsillitis with no fever! This is how it normally presents in me.

Get to the doctor and get a strep test.
