Multi-digit Subtraction Rhyme

What do you think?

I was looking through pinterest yesterday and saw a subtraction rap. I used it as a jumping off point for the following rhyme (could be a rap) for subtraction. Some of the parts were thought up by other people.

More on top,
No need to stop.

Just subtract -
Use the right fact!

Hey, you're done.
That was fun!

More on the floor,
Go next door.

Regroup and rename,
That's our game!

Now subtract -
Use the right fact!

Hey, you're done.
That was fun!

I think I will put this on chart paper in my classroom. Do you think it might help the kids?

(Tune of Happy and You Know It)

If it's smaller on the top take a ten (clap, clap)
If it's smaller on the top take a ten (clap, clap)

If it's smaller on the top
Take a ten and try again.

If it's smaller on the top take a ten.

Last year I did

More on the top, no need to stop.

Numbers the same, zeros the game.

More on the floor, go next door, get 10 more.

It worked WONDERS! We did a bunch of quizes where they would have to tell me the parts so I could get them to memorize it and I had it posted. I was amazed how well it worked!

I used this last year, too! It really helped many of my students.
