Hi,
I'm finishing my year off with this story as Literature circles. Does any one have any cute ideas? I do plan to watch the movie when finished. I've searched google, and found some but wondering what you great teachers out there might have??

go to teachingbooks.net
you can get some good questions, I have to tell you I just finished this and the kids just didnt like the book. It has been awhile since I have read it and to tell you the truth, it really wasn't a great book.
In the past I had a mom make the dirt cups with pudding and crushed cookies and gummy worms as a fun treat. It just wasnt that great this time around
I do remember my teacher reading it to me and teaching me this song
No body loves me,
everybody hates me
Im gonna go eat worms
big fat juicy ones
little itty bitty ones
oh how the little ones squirm
first you bite the heads off
then you suck the juice out
\then you throw the skins away
no one knows how I can eat worms

( #) TIMEs a day

have fun

I LOVED this book as a child but was totally disappointed in it when I read it to my class 2 years ago. I still had my original copy, so I don't know if it's been updated but there was a lot of inappropriate language and situations that I totally didn't remember. What a disappointment.

Students not so interested

I am currently reading this book (How to Eat Fried Worms) as a read aloud during snack time. My students like it but I have read better books to them. Some of their favorites were Holes by Louis Sachar and Charlotte's Web by E.B. White and both have movies. Althought I think there is a swear word in Holes. We didn't watch it but we did watch Charlotte's Web. The flashbacks in Holes were a little difflicult for them in the beginning but they started to pickup on it quickly. I know they would say that that one was their all time favorite.

How to Eat Fried Worms & Cupcakes

I read the book and then made cupcakes for my kids. I cut the tops off, put a gummy worm in each, put the top back on and frosted them. I told the kids they were for being such good kids and doing so well. Then before they ate them, I asked their opinion of the book, and if they would ever eat a worm. Then they ate the cupcakes and found the worms in them. It was fun for them and me as well.

I showed the movie to my third graders, but do beware, a child does say the word penis in the movie and I was a little caught off guard as my students all looked at me to see my reaction. We had to discuss why that wasn't appropriate to say at school.

How to Eat Fried Worms

I did this as a read a loud and before the book ended brought in rolled, melted tootsie rolls that looked like worms. We had a container of worms in the room that I had gotten from Wal-Mart's fishing dept. while we were reading the book. So the night before I took tootsie rolls, melted them for 10 sec. in the microwave, rolled them out to look like worms and placed them into crushed oreos. While reading the book I went over to the container(kids thought they were the real ones from Wal Mart) and started to eat them. So FUN! Then we all had a treat!

Got this idea from a previous poster! Thanks!
