Kid-friendly common core standards

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have looked everywhere for common core standards written in kid-friendly terms. I have spent a lot of time this year already working on pacing charts, a standards based report card, and quarterly assessments. I still have a lot of work to do on all of these so I don't want to have rewrite the standards in easier terms if I can find some that someone else has already done. I have checklists for the standards. I have downloaded lots of free things from TPT, but still have not found all of the math and language arts standards in kid-friendly "I Can" or "We Can" statements. I really don't want to pay for them if I don't have to.
Does anyone have a link where I can find this information? TIA

Deana Jump has them on TPT using I can or We can statements. I will be getting them for next year. I mentioned them to my P and she is interested in ordering them for us.

I also found The Organized Classroom Blog. She has a great presentation explaining what she has created. Take a look!

I have mine written in I can terms but they are not necessarily kid friendly. Are you looking just for posters or in what format? I have quarterly assessments with recording charts with the skills broken down in I can statements for the quarterly skills. I have skill cards just using the standard with I can in front. Unfortunately mine are for sale and not free but I have giveaways all of the time on my blog! :-). I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to write about my things on here so I'm not going to leave my tpt store address......

We start common core next year so I have just been trying to get as ahead as possible!

Good luck finding what you are looking for! If I run across anything free like that- I'll come back and post again!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I checked out some of the links. I did find something on pinterest, but when I opened it I did not think it looked like the common core standards. It looked like they correlated more with the current state standards. The links that I opened today look very similar to what I saw on Pinterest.
Rockin1stgrad, I am just looking for a list of the common core standards that are written in simplified terms that kids and parents can understand. We start with the common core next year too and I am working hard to get as much done this year as I can so I will feel more prepared next year.

You and I must think alike! I create most of my own things. As I taught items this year- I only created something new if it was common core.

One item that I found are common core clinic books. I plan to order them just to have something to have to make me feel more confident next year. I don't want to go into common core blindly!!! I feel okay with math- And writing- I have a lot of work to do with reading.

As for simplified terms- I created math parent newsletters as a way to try to communicate the skills. I have used this in the past and it helped parents with homework etc. Just another idea. :-)

Good luck to you all! :-)

about the common core standards, since we are not required to use them yet. However, I accidentally ran across this and wondered if it would help you.

I'm looking for the same thing. I did purchase on TPT but looking for parent friendly. Check this out.

not sure PT will let me post the address. I'll check back and fix if not.
Gotta work together as there is so much to do. Good luck!

Praktcentechr, thanks for the information. I did download the standards from this site. I don't think the language has been simplified much if any, but it is a starting point. I think everyone is having a hard time putting these standards in easier terms. You are right though. We do all need to work together because there is so much to do!
I am very thankful for PT and all of the wonderful ideas I get from here.

I have started attempting to rewrite my common core skill cards as kid friendly. Some standards are definitely more tricky than others! :-)

Rockin1stgrad, I haven't attempted this yet because I am still trying to get the quarterly assessments done for the first nine weeks. I would like to at least have the standards we are teaching the first nine weeks written in kid and parent friendly terms by the beginning of the school year. Looks like that will be a summer project. Let me know how your attempts go.
Thanks again everyone for all of the information.
