Lanyard necklaces in the classroom?

I am going with a beach/ocean theme again this year. I did the same thing last year and found these great lanyards that I couldn't resist from Oriental Trading. The problem was, I couldn't figure out how I wanted to use them. Well, here we are again, preparing for a new year and not even a glimmer of hope for using them in the classroom.

Any ideas? They are lanyard necklaces that have an ID/photo section with a piece of paper that I can take out or leave in.

Thanks!

I use mine for name tags. That way there are no pin holes in their clothing. Just my preference.

You could also use them to form groups by putting different pics in them to represent each group.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of using them to group the students. Now I just have to figure out the details. Guided reading, math groups, etc?

I actually don't use nametags in my class. I teach at a private school and have known the majority of my students since they were in kindergarten. Any new students are easy to remember. It's a great idea, though.

Maybe put in vocabulary words or math facts. The kids could each wear a different one and that could be their name for the day.
I also like the idea of using them for grouping.
Or you could have a certain number at each station if you do centers to control numbers.

Bathroom Pass?

One of the teachers at my last school used them as bathroom passes. She just put something at the end and they could take one off of a hook and wear it.

My daughter's fifth grade teacher had a punch card in each lanyard. I believe they had numbers on them. She would use a hole puncher to punch holes for things like missed homework or misbehavior. The kids needed to have at least one number left in order to participate in a fun activity at the end of the month.

I have their names on the front which helps me learn their names and on the back I write their different passwords/usernames that they need for lunch and the different computers programs.
