a VISA gift card in their store? The business office purchased Walmart gift cards for teachers even though we asked for VISA gift cards. Will Walmart allow me to use their gift card to buy a VISA card? I called customer service and they said yes, however another teacher went to a Walmart and they wouldn't let her (a different store from the one I called). Anyone ever try it? Thanks!

No, you cannot use a gift card to purchase another gift card, in practically every store I've ever been to.

If they let you, you will loose money on it because the VISA gift cards usually have a fee at the end.

NO, you cannot. You have to pay cash and they do not consider giftcards same as cash.

I don't think that's possible, but try shopping walmart.com. They have quite a bit more selection than I've ever seen in a store.

However be careful with the gift card. Most of the gift cards at Wal Mart are the ones with a $3 charge on them (Visa, Amer Express). But they kind of have to let you do it. After all, they have said that the gift card is a replacement of cash. Why do they care if it is actual Cash or a card that was pre-loaded with cash?

I am the queen of gift carding, thanks to the Scrip system of fundraising.

This is not totally true. You can use a store gift card to buy another store gift card. But you can not use a store credit card to buy most of the prepaid visas or mastercards, but I have used them to buy American Express cards.

I do this all the time- I recharge my Kroger card and buy gift cards to the stores not on the list from Great Lake Scrip. I still get the 4% credited back to my school account because I paid for it using the Kroger card.

If your school is not using the Great Lake Scrip gift card center, you should suggest it. I know PS around here use it for bands, choirs and sports.

Thanks for all of the input. It took two sales clerk and the supervisor to finally get the VISA gift cards that I wanted. They returned the Walmart card and let me purchase the other card. I did have to pay almost $13.00 in fees (for 2 $100.00 cards and 1 $25.00 card) but it was well worth it. $250.00 was far too much for me to spend at Walmart. As a kindergarten teacher, I will put the money to better use at Lakeshore.
