Hello, I was just wondering about the postcard exchange. I am a student teacher and would love to get my students involved. I was wondering if someone may be able to help me find a list of the names and addresses of the schools that participate. Any help would be great!

Hi, I just realized I spelled here, hear...thats what happens when you type late at night. Sorry, anyway, I have just been putting post up about getting postcards and we have been getting a lot of schools willing to send a card. I am building a bulletin board with the postcards. My students are in 7th grade, but they want to know each day if we have gotten any new cards. You might want to post on all the boards and see what happens. Good luck. I am going to mail out cards to you Mandy and also to the other post, I think it was Mrs. Sovine's class.

MomofThree. We received your note that our postcard finally arrived. Bizardie, and Nails we are mailing you cards tomorrow ---from Kansas. Our postcards are homemade. They have a buffalo and turtle on the front --state symbols and extra fun facts in our message.
This is so great. We have started receiving some of the cards. Yours will be in the mail by Friday.
uggestion: Be sure to put up a map of the US and the postcards. Then link the postcards to the map with yarn. It becomes pretty awesome after a while. When I did this about 7 or 8 years ago we received postcards from around the world. It was a grand site - the bulletin board. Everyone stopped to look at it. So far, we have a card from Okinawa, where I grew up.
I teach at a Montessori school and my students would love this! Can I become part? We will send a card from our state to anyone who send us one.

How do you make homemade postcards? What type of paper do you use? Are there any special rules so the post-office will accept them. I think this would be a great Art project for my students that will tie into a writing project in the spring.
A suggestion. You can offer extra credit to those who bring in postcards about your states. I did this and the response was huge. The kids enjoyed looking for a card plus they liked the extra credit. Just a thought. Momofthree

I was wondering the same thing? How do you find 50 states to participate? Is it just through this web page? THat seems like it would be a whole lot of work, and a bit of luck involved also. WHat state are you from? I have a second grade class in NJ...Keri
I'm not sure how to ensure that you get a postcard from all the states. But I think that is one of the neat things about this project. It is a challenge to see how many you acutally get. I am relying on boards like this, friends in other states, and family members of my students.
So far it has been a bit slow, but I'm sure things will pick up. I had to go to the airport to get postcards. I didn't realize how hard they were to find. It is amazing how things change in just a matter of years.
Anyway, I'll be sending a postcard to all the addresses listed here. They will be in the mail by Friday. Please make sure you send us one back.
So far we have one from 6 states and 1 country. Only 1 of those cards has been from another teacher. We have sent postcards to all those that put their return address on the cards.
My students really enjoy getting the cards. I had them write messages on our cards. This is such a good learning activity. You could even do some math by calculating the cost of postage.

I have already posted this and have sent some postcards already. I teach on an American Army Post in Germany where the US Postal Service is our main means of getting letters to/from "home". I will have one of my 3rd grade students write a postcard to anyone who sends us a postcard. Again, it only takes $.24 to mail a postcard to our APO AE address.

I use postcards many different ways. I have a large basket of postcards and as a work station the kids pull a postcard and then have a worksheet where they use an Atlas to find answers. Also, postcards work real well as a bulletin board cover, instead of butcher paper.
I will be sending postcards to several address I have found on this 'thread'. Hope to receive several for our class.
I loved living on Okinawa. I went to Sukiran Elementary, Kadena Middle School, Pacific Middle School, Kubasaki 9th Grade (next door to PMS) and Kubasaki High School. I lived there for 8 years. It was wonderful growing up there.

I was surfing the web the other night and I came across a site that was also wanting to do a postcard exchange. I can't remember the site, but the contact person sent me a list of addresses. Some of the states were repeated on the list and not all the states were listed. But again, I think it is rather neat to get multiple cards from a state. The different cards show the diversity of the state.

With great hope our postcards will be going out by Friday. The students are excited about the project, yet not excited enough to complete the postcards. We have received two, Mrs. Sovine's class and another that we seem to have lost in one of our creative messes. It was a homemade one with a buffalo on the front. I'm sure it will turn up soon. Two both classes, we thank you. Keep the postcards coming. I've started the bulletin board idea with the yarn, and I think it's going to get the kids moving.
We found the missing postcard. It was from Kansas. Thank you Mrs. Forssberg. I suppose all I had to do was ask the kids. They knew exactly where it was.

I think this is one of the neatest ideas!! I am the mom of a homeschooler (6th grade-11yr old) and we are mailing out cards to the addresses above. I hope we will get some cards in the mail as well. We received your postcard and we will be sending you one this week. I would have sent it sooner, but the post office stamped over you address, so I had to come home and look up your address.

Just wanted to remind you to make sure you write a clear return address on the card. Sometimes even when you do the post office stamps over it. I'm going to try and figure out 2 cards that we've received and return cards to you if we haven't sent one already.
I put our return address on a label, but now I'm thinking I didn't put it on a good place on the card. Hopefully, the post office didn't stamp over them. I know the post office is machine automated so it just stamps. I guess we just need to be smarter than the machines.
Thanks to everyone who has sent us a postcard the children love to read them. They really seemed engaged in this activity. Sent you a card out today. It was a bit difficult trying to read your address. The post office stampled over it. Thank goodness I had copied this site and stuck the papers in a folder. Your names were readable so I was able to send it using this address. Anyway, it is on the way.
Hello from Kansas oh dear I haven't check in on this link for awhile.
We used the large size plain recipe cards. Used outline clip art of a buffalo and printed Kansas data on the buffalo and added a small box turtle ---for the front.
On the other side we divided it in half and put the address and stamp. On the other half we wrote about a famous Kansas person and some things that makes Kansas special.
If you haven't received a Kansas postcard send me an e mail and we will share our Kansas card with you.
At the beginning of the year. Teachers come on the chatboards and try to organize exchanges and we joined and sent a postcard to all fifty states on the list. We didn't get a card from everyone who joined but we got alot.
