I did one last year where I looked at a classroom that included daily SSR and one that did not, to see if there was any significant change in terms of students' motivation to read and reading achievement between the two classrooms.

teachrchick...interesting...wha t were your results?

I did an action research project on whether or not explicitly teaching evaluation criteria made a difference in writing achievement. It did!

Random,

That's a great one! I'm not surprised by the results either.

My results showed that the classroom that engaged in SSR resulted in a slight increase in motivation to read at the end of the year. Achievement between the two classroom was not statistically different.

Hi,

I recently completed an action research along with a colleague from my grade level. Our project compared intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation in spelling instruction. I also completed an action research when I did my Masters; it studied the effect of character education lessons on behavior. Hope this helps.

My action research was comparing reading levels of kiddos whose parents read to them to those that didn't, and different activities teachers could do with kids in school to help make up the lack of assistance at home.

For grad program mine was Factors and Effects of Cooperative Learning. We all now the results but hey... I got a good grade and learned about my kids and whom they liked working with and did not like working with.

If there was time and money in it I would do it for a living! My grad thesis was on the effect of preschool attendence on a standardized first grade test our district used to give. Significant differences!

Help needed for a research project

I mishick,

I have to conduct an action research project in kindergarten.
English is not my first language and this year I am doing my masters in one of the universities in Oregon, after I graduated in my home country back in 1985. It has been a great challenge. I am planing on doing my research on intrinsic motivation vs. extrinsic motivation on behavior; what you did looks perfect. Do you have any recommendations for me? Any resources that I could look at?

I will appreciate your suggestions.

Can anyone tell me if action research would be a good methodology to use to evaluate the effectiveness of a high school transition program?
