CAFE strategy groups?

Does anyone do strategy groups within your class?

I'm thinking of doing a mixture of guided reading and strategy groups. For example, I have a whole bunch of kids who fall into the J/K reading level so I made 2 groups: one to focus on comprehension and one to focus on accuracy (based on their running records' results). Does this sound like a good idea?

Absolutely sounds like an educationally smart idea! We do this for RTI.

I teach fifth grade and I meet with my low group every day and work on comprehension strategies. They work on word attack and fluency in their intervention groups taught outside the classroom. Then I meet with leveled groups at the beginning of the year until I get to know the kids- then I meet with strategy groups instead after I know what kids need. I conference with kids so that I meet with every child every two weeks.

Strategy groups and Guided reading groups

Each day I meet with: (well, on a "good" day, that is, )
one strategy group (with a single copy of the book I model with)
one or two guided reading groups (with a 6 pack of books on the level of those students)
two or three individual CAFE conferences (they bring the book of their choice)

My lowest GR group meets with me three times per week and the highest group only once. Since my kids are in both strategy groups and guided reading groups, some kids meet with me multiple times in one day and all meet with me at least once per week.

I have a Multi-Age class with 18 kids aged 5-8.
