My theme next year is the wizard of oz and I have serveral ideas for BB. However, I am still coming up short with a couple things and would like to ask for any help that I can get! I searched the archives and found some stuff but still need creative ideas for these:

Reading BB title
What's happening BB (school calendar, lunch calendar, birthdays, etc.)
standards/anchors

Thanks in advance!

Reading: "There's No Place Like In A Good Book" with red glittery slippers at the bottom and a light blue gingham background. You could put genres, author bios, etc. on the board.

What's happening BB: "Here's What's Popping Up" and put info in the center of paper poppies.

Standards: "Follow Our Yellow Brick Road" with yellow paper bricks listing the standards/anchors.

YOU COULD:
Make each board a character from the story:

Reading: "No 'Lion', Reading is Grrrrrrrrrreat!"
Standards: "If We Only Had a Brain"
What's Happening: "Hearty Happenings"

Don't forget to include the Wizard and Dorothy (not to mention Toto too!).

"Mawmaw4's" ideas are great! I almost wish I were doing this theme! (That movie scared me as a child!) I'm not sure how to use the Emerald City, but I'd have to think of some way. Best of luck with this theme, it sounds like it will be really cool!

I once saw this posted on some show about an exceptional teacher and it has stayed with me.

I'm off to BE the wizard! (Remember that OZ never gave them anything that they didn't already have.)

Let them be the wizards of their own learning.

Thanks so much for your help! It even made me thing of other things to do for around my room I am going to incorporate the emerald city into my Reading BB where we keep track of their Reading Logs...almost like they have to make a trip there themselves, like they did in the movie. But they really had the ability to read before they made the trip, just like the characters. I loved the idea of the poppies...since the kids call me Miss Pop! I'm even more excited to do this theme now! Thanks again!

I love the idea. A teacher I used to work with had someone draw a yellow brick road, red slippers etc and it looked great. How could this theme be used for middle school?

A cute idea for your entrance/doorway. Stick a construction paper doorbell above your door knob and post the sign "Bell Out of Order...Please Knock"!

For a Behavior Chart or helper chart you could post the heading "Good Deed Do'ers"

For our Multiplication BB We travel from our X2's to our X9's. At each Fact I post scenes from the Wiz of Oz to reach the Emerald City, where they receive a prize for mastering their facts. The children each receive a Toto picture to decorate w. their class number which they use to travel from one x's fact to the next. Each week they take a times test and if they pass they can move to the next scene.

I also have a BB For Rules...Post a picture of Glinda w/ the heading "Munchkin Manners" I also display some McDonalds Munchkins around this BB. The students watch a clip from the movie where Dorothy meets the Munchkins and discuss ways they acted towards each other, and strangers. We come up with a list of ways to use good manners and display the chart under the heading.
