Hello everyone! This is my first post on this board. I always see helpful posts and responses! I will be starting student teaching in 2 weeks. I have not yet gotten placed but I should be in a week or so (crosses fingers...tired of waiting) I will be student teaching in a Pre-K PPCD deaf ed classroom. Any suggestions or advice on how to survive student teaching...I'm really nervous! I'm not sure what to expect expect?!? Thanks

Deaf Ed is a whole different experience! Do you know if you will be at a school for the deaf or public school?

It's going to be fine so don't be nervous! Just be confident and try to be yourself while being professional. Just send your lovin' to the kids and get to you them right away. Introduce yourself to everyone, event he students. Help as much as you can with their work. You'll be fine. I know because I was also so nervous posting on here before I started fieldwork and student teaching. It shows you care a lot. And if you care a lot about what you're doing you'll be fine.

ENJOY IT!! Student teaching was SOO much fun. Relax, and take it as a learning experience. You get to try different methods and see what works and what doesn't.

Hey there,

I student taught last year and had to switch placements. You may have a really tough time with your placement teacher. For me our personalities were just so different an I didn't feel safe confiding in her or asking her for help. Once I switched schools everything was so much better. So my advice is that if you are struggling be open about it with your mentor and the university staff. if necessary they may be able to switch you. Hopefully nothing like that will happen, but just make sure you keep short accounts with your mentor and all should be well.
