I've spent sooooooooooooooooooooooo much money out of my pocket this year. This is my first teaching. My school gives me a budget of 300 dollars to buy things, but they can only be from Lakeshore. I feel like I can get similar products for so much cheaper.

Wow! $300 is a lot of money! We only get $40 to spend, and we only have 3 choices of where to spend it.

I agree with you in that you can some items cheaper somewhere else, but it is most likey easier for the person in charge of money orders/budget to keep up with the paperwork if it from one place. I'm guessing that is why you might be told to only shop at Lakeshore.

Since that $300 is not coming out of your own pocket, I guess just smile and spend!

I, also, used to spend a lot out of my pocket on my classroom for years and years. After over 30 + years....spending $200 per year adds up to $6,000... I wish I hadn't done it

I agree with pp. smile and enjoy. We also only get $40. I'd jump for joy for even $100!

Let me get this straight...you're complaining that you get $300 to spend? I would love that! Hell, if my school district told me it had to spent at a 7-11, I'd be over the moon happy, and make it work.

We get a flyer with the address to the free store at the beginning of the year. Not kidding. I would love to have a budget, or a math curriculum and text books for that matter.

It doesn't make sense that your district wouldn't want you to spend that money wherever you could make it stretch the furthest. Do they have some kind of deal with Lakeshore?

That is a bummer that you have to spend the money at one specific place, but I agree with the others that you should be glad you get $300.

For a number of years, I got $60 per year for classroom money. Then, at one point, the district decided to start charging kids for the bus (very small amount, like $25 per kid for the year). The principal decided that was unfair and said our school was going to pay for that so the students would not need to. She took our $60 classroom money as part of the "bus fund". Now, we get nothing. Been that way for years.
