I have decided to use the construction theme in my classroom this year. If anyone has used this theme before and has some catchy titles for birthday board, helper board, etc...please share
I started out using this theme.(I've changed my mind 100 times since) First of all, I went to the archives and typed construction. It came up with a lot of stuff.
As for jobs, I had foreman, supervisor, receptionist
My star student was "employee of the week"
I created the attached time card to monitor attendence. It was going to have a magnet on it where they placed it on either school lunch or sack lunch.
Ask around--I got my local construction company to donate some hats and caution tape. Also, Lowe's has the little nail aprons that you can put on the back of their chairs for supplies.
WOW! Now that I'm typing this out, I may be changing my mind again. Good Luck and email me if you have any questions.
This one may be farfetched, but www.reallygoodstuff.com has "Gearing Up For a Really Good Year!" There is a banner (153572TJ), nameplates (153730TJ), postcards (153763TJ), letterhead (153774TJ), photo holders (153785TJ), pencils holders (153752TJ), and pencils (153808TJ).
Ok--I've officially changed back to construction. My discipline plan is the old standby of pulling slips so. . . I made a small stop light for each kid. They have red, yellow, & green circles on them and I will remove for each infraction.
Another way to do this is to make one big stoplight and move clothespins or magnets for each child.
Good Luck--send me pics when you get your room done and I'll do the same.
One little thing I saw there was border that said, "Caution: Learning in Process" or something like that...It looked like yellow tape, but with a hard hat and cement truck on it too.
I thought it was too cute -- but I made myself put it back: My theme is teamwork (sports) this year and I keep on buying things that don't go with it because they're cute!
Thanks--my school is now the official FEMA/SRS headquarters in Coffeyville, KS so I don't know when I'm going to be able to finally get in my room to set up. I spent another $100 today on deco so I can't wait.
I'm also doing a construction theme this year and I'm thinking of calling my b-day area "Have a Dynamite Birthday" I used a rectangular planter last year and called it "Birthday Blooms". Each student birthday was on a cutout flower which I put a birthday pencil though and then I stuck it in to the green plant foam. I thought of making that planter box into a dynamite ignition box? and attaching a stick of dynamite cut out on their b-day pencil with the saying "Have a Blast on your Birthday!"
