school sports theme

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I just heard our entire school is doing a team theme with sports this year per the principal. I spoke with one of my third grade buddies today and she came up with this: each 3rd grade teacher can do a thing over their door with a different sport. We will have 4 possibly 5 3rd grade classrooms. What are some sayings or team type slogans to go with specific sports that we can put in the hall?

My school is also doing the TEAM theme. Earlier this summer, I went through ProTeacher's archives and came up with the attachment below. It is not real organized, but it will give you some slogan ideas.

I have also been watching the teacher catalogs, and so here is what I am finding for decorating my room and hallway...but I also get very good slogans from catalogs:

www.reallygoodstuff.com - "Welcome to Our Team" items - poster (155393SH), banner (154497SH), postcard (154504SH), photo holders (154503SH), laser paper (154498SH), name tags (154499SH), pencil holder (154501SH), pencils (154500SH), reading incentive poster (154822SJ), refill set for incentive poster (154823SJ)

Really Good Stuff also has "Start Your Engines" items. Racing is a "team sport" but I am not sure that is what you are looking for. There is a banner (155486SH), poster (155572SH), photo holder (155521SH), laser paper (155558SH), name tags (155593SH), pencils (155615SH), pencil holders (155579SH), postcards (155645SH), mini-activity books (155627SH), lunch poster with magnetic racecars (15564)SH), magnets (155528SH), and black and white racing pennant 100 feet long (155566SH).

www.upstartpromotions.com - "Team Read" items - stickers (K87069733), bulletin board (K87-40646), poster (K87-32243), bookmarks (K87-94379), large pennant (K87-57154), mini pennant (K87-99475), buttons (K87-16986), (K87-70175), (K87-11891), and (k87-98120). Because "Upstart" is a company for librarians, there are also items like reading certificates, reading records, bookbags, trophy, wristband, and jersey.

www.smilemakers.com - mini bulletin board set (SCH1011), stickers (ACT) on rolls and (ACT17) in boxes, border (SCH797),

www.creativeteaching.com - bulletin board set (CTP 2083)

www.carsondellosa.com - bulletin board set (CD-110016), "All-Star Students! (CD-110084), "On Track with Good Behavior" (CD-3427), megaphones (CD-120005), pennants (CD-120006), sports balls (CD-5595), megaphone (CD-188004), stickers (CD-5271) and (CD-2927), seals (CD-2176), border (CD-1233)

www.teachersfriend.com - bulletin board (NTS965453), design paper (NTS991997), mini bulletin board (NTS992000), bulletin board (NTS992014)

I have also been watching my local dollar store and going to my local party store. The latter has some great decorations for baseball, soccer, bowling, basketball, football, and racing.

I hope this helps!

All-Star Students

Clip to ScrapBook #3

I have a sports theme in my classroom and the kids really love it! We use a 'scoreboard' to track behavior (It's a football field with marked lines. They have to reach the endzone for a treat.) I also use the 'Wall of Fame' for posting their work. "Go fo the Goal' is a large soccer net and I post students' names on soccer balls when they achieve their reading goal. There is a 'Concession Stand' that holds all the goodies and treats. Possible Bulletin Board ideas: 'Teamwork' (pennants), "Mrs. ___________'s SportsCenter" (all sports), 'All-Star Students' (stars or TShirts), "Victory Lane" (racecars), "Go for the Gold" (gold trophies or medals), Mrs. _______'s Students Are in A League of Their Own!" (baseballs), "Racing for Succes" (bikes or racecars), Mrs. __________'s Finish Line (horses or racecars), etc.

You should definitely go to the dollar store or nearest party supply store. They have NUMEROUS resources.
Have a fun!

We did a team theme as a grade level last year. One thing we did that was fun was we had referee shirts made with our last name on the back and the number 3 ( we teach third grade). We wore them for Halloween complete with hat, whistle and clipboard.

Since I taught in Louisiana, I OBVIOUSLY called my students "SAINTS"--so I don't know if you can use that one! Other possible options:
Mrs. ____'s Most Valuable Players
Mrs. ____'s Draft Picks
Mrs. ____'s Class Is TACKLING Third Grade!

Maybe those can work!
