I am starting my 3rd year of teaching and have decided to do a Frog theme. For the past couple years my "theme" was dots and hand-me-downs. So now I want to work with Frogs. I teach a bilingual classroom so whatever I do in English I have to translate to Spanish. Does anyone have any ideas for inexpensive Frog ideas? My preference is colorful frogs not just green ones, but anything is good now. I have less than a month to plan it out.
Thanks!
Does your school have a die cut machine? You could cut a lot of different colored frogs and use them any way you wish.
I think I saw some colorful frogs at the school supply store last time I was there too. They had them both in a mini BB set, and in packages of just the frogs. Frogs are fun, you can find all kinds of things having to do with frogs. Best wishes to you.
This is my first year teaching (I have kindergarten). I am doing the frog theme as well. For one of my bulletin boards I put "Hop on in to Kindergarten" with frogs surrounding the text. The students' names will be on the frogs. I was able to find some bulletin board kits at the store. I am still waiting for the "BIG" decorating idea that will transform the classroom. I need something that stands out. I was thinking of making lilypad cushions, but I just don't see that doing the trick. I really need help with the last detail. As of right now my classroom has nicely decorated bulletin boards but nothing else. If you have anyother ideas PLEASE suggest them. Thanks!
Creative teaching press had a lot of frog items in its clearance section! Also..target had some frog items in its dollar section.
Big lots had little frog folding chairs that I got...they are really cute!
This is my second year using frogs as a theme. Here are some ideas...
--put a blue rug in your library area and call it "the pond"
--Target has some cute frog stuff in the bathroom section. The shower curtain makes a great background for a bulletin board. The wastebasket is great for lots of things.
--"following the rules is no croak" and "It's good to be green" have been titles for my behavior boards
If you do a search for frogs in the archives, you can find tons of ideas. Have fun with it!
Like many others, I use the organizational binders for homework and parent communication. To go along with my frog theme, I call them "F.R.O.G. Logs". Another website provided the anacronym For Really Organized Guys/Girls, not sure who the credit goes to, but that's the one I use. I make sure the children bring in binders with the clear view pocket on the front. I purchase the large frog notepads, separate and laminate them, then attach them to the cover page. They look really cute and the parents love them!
I did a frog theme last year with my second grade class. I called the kids my "tadpoles" and told them that by the end of the year they would all be frogs ready to jump into third grade. My newsletter was the "Tadpole Tidbits", we had a news studio where kids reported on their self-selected reading books which was the "Tadpole Book Newsroom", and our behavior chart was F.R.O.G. (Friends who show respect stay on green). This year I am changing my room to "Biomes of the World", but the frogs and toads that are found in each biome will be the stars (after all, my students/parents showered me with frog presents throughout the year).
i did frog as my theme last year and did it all year long. i started by doing frogs and talked about local bodies of water in relation to neighborhoods and by the end of the year we talked about bodies of water in the world and rainforest/colorful frogs. i picked up lots of frogs to put around the room at the end of the summer in garden areas of local discount stores as they were usually marked down. my hall was welcome to our pad, behavior bb was toadally awesome behavior,
door said were hoppy to see you, math board was hop into learning. just look for synonyms for jump or frog and play with that. on parent folders i did kathy's frog folder(fantastic, responsible, organized and growing) folder and mrs. sides' pad. then on the back i put thanks for being a frog to help encourage them to follow the f.r.o.g. theme. i had lots of positive feedback on the folders. i used a lot of trend, carson-dellosa and others to decorate. the book frog frenzy had some cute ideas and don't forget about clip art from frog street materials that you could use as blow ups. i also orders tadpoles and raised frogs in my class from uncle melton. they come ready to go and you just have the habitat and feed them. you might try to look that up. i bought my kit at a teacher store. i also took strength in looking at my frogs and thinking fully rely on god. hope these ideas help...
thanks for the ideas. I nver thought about the garden center for clearance. Mabe a garden flag to hang in my reading pond/door....
Is there a lot of work in live frogs? How often does the water need changed? What do you feed them? Did you have a small aquarium or a tank? Filters? Heaters?
Thanks, I would really like to have frogs. We do a huge science unit on life cycles using butterflies. That would fit in perfectly.
we changed the water every other day; but that depends on how many tads you have and the size of the container. you have to use bottled water--tap water is not suitable because it often has to many chemicals. frogs are cold blooded so no heaters are needed. we didn't use a pump or anything. it required very little water and the kids loved it. watch out when you order your tadpoles because the temperature in the delivery truck may get to hot or cold for the tads before arrival. also as soon as they arrive get them and the cup they arrive in in the water you plan to put them in so they can become the same temperature and you can get them into the tank and moving around pretty fast. the instructions come with the kit i bought but i'm sure if you looked up uncle milton (melton?) then you could get all the info you need. good luck let me know if you need help and how it goes...
