Theme - Any new ideas?

Anyone using a patriotic/stars and stripes/Americana theme for this year? I am thinking that this would be a great way to tie in so many social studies topics. I haven't heard much about many going this route this year, but if you have done this in the past please let me know what worked well for you...Thanks!

I am using a patriotic theme. I am thinking lots of red, white and blue. I am going to use symbols such as the liberty bell, statue of liberty, etc. as table names. I am going to call my reading corner. Mount READmore and have a picture of mt. rushmore. I am going to have students have red, white, and blue stars of their desks so I can call them by color for lining up and for dismissal, etc. My class newsletter will be called the STATE OF THE UNION.

That's a great idea for a theme. There is so much that you can buy to go along with it too. I know that our Walmart still has 4th of July things on clearance. I have never used it as a theme, but have a lot of stuff that could be used. Teacher stores are chocked full of patriotic bbs and borders. I saw some patriotic star desk plates at Dollar Tree (or was it at Target's dollar bins?). Since I teach US geography for SS, I pay attention to the American themed things. Good luck!
