What to write on Back to School Postcard?

This will be the first year that I am able to send out postcards to my students before school begins. I would like to go ahead and fill them out (before I get the names and addresses) ... What do you write on your postcards? I'm lost! Thanks!

i write "are you sure you want to be in my class? good luck to you!"

I'm kidding!! I just say that I hope they had a great summer and that I can't wait to see them in the fall. I also tell them to be prepared for an exciting year in 2nd grade.

nothing that long or detailed. just want them to know i'm thinking about them.

Congratulations on your first job as a teacher....it's the hardest job you'll ever love

I wanted to share an idea you might be interested in...I always gave creative hints about our classroom theme not only to motivate the kids about back to school but to make them wonder and also be able to find me on meet the teacher. What is your theme this year?

Anyhow I've purchased either blank Avery postcards and/or used large address or diskette labels to type and print off my message and then I just stuck the label onto the postcard. Another reason I did this is because I absolutely hate my own handwriting and truth be told I can be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to silly things like that

Here is an example of what I did my last year in 3rd grade. I had a "Super-Kid" theme:

Front:
Are you?
S-mart
U-nique
P-roud
E-xcited
R-esponsible

K-ind
I-ncredible
D-etermined

Back where address label goes:
Dear Super-Kid,
Have no fear...
This will be a SUPER year!
Adventures await...don't be late.
There is work to be done,
Third Grade will be a ton of fun!
Super Readers, Captains of Character,
and Math Marvels you will soon be...
Just you wait and see!
Your Super Teacher,
_____

Come and meet your Super Teacher
and Super Classmates
Date
Time
Place
*Our first official adventure begins
date of first day of school

I will tell you though that other teachers gave me a hard time for my postcards but I had fun creating them and the kids and parents told me how much they enjoyed getting them so it was worth the teasing

desire2inspir .... Any fun suggestions for a sports theme? I have already purchased the "preprinted" postcards, so I only am able to write on the back. Thanks in advance! I do like your suggestion on the Avery postcards ... possibility for next year!

Let me think on that one and I'll get back to you...I warn you in advance it might be on the "cheesy" side

The first thought that popped into my head was something I've seen on posters etc..
T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves More)
maybe you could work it in somehow if you wanted

I love to help...I don't have a classroom of just my kiddos anymore so I miss this stuff...I will see what I can think of. What grade do you teach? Are you integrating your theme into or with anything else like discipline/motivation/recognition/expectations? Sometimes thinking about that helps. I like your theme! I'll never forget an interview question it seems like I was always asked...what synonym for teacher would describe you...I always said "coach"

Ocean/Beach theme postcards
Old 07-28-2007, 07:40 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #10

I teach 4th grade and this will be the first year that I send out postcards to my students. They come to open house the night before school starts, and we don't get our class list until 1 day before open house- so needless to say it is a little frustrating being less than a week from school starting and I don't know which kids I am getting. Sorry about the rambling there. I would love to do postcards and mail them out the day of open house, so that they get them over the weekend. We start on this Friday. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can inc my theme into a postcard poem?

Thanks

6th grade ideas?
Old 08-08-2014, 01:50 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #14

I love your ideas and poems. Cheesy is awesome!!! I have a very general theme in my class. Very bright and colorful. I do put college names and mascots on the kids lockers to divide into groups and begin the collegiate indoctrination somewhat subliminally. :-)

Any ideas for my postcards to get the 6th graders amped up for a ton of hard work and crazy fun?
